Musk has recently completed the construction of his fourth car manufacturing facility. In addition to its headquarters in Austin, Texas, this plant is Tesla’s second manufacturing facility in the United States. The other two locations are in Shanghai, China, and a few miles outside of Berlin, Germany. As a result, the firm has manufacturing facilities on three separate continents, allowing it to service a variety of major markets, beginning with China and Europe, which are the world’s two largest EV markets. A total production capacity of at least 2 million units per year is achieved by the four factories when operating at their maximum output levels.

The business also wants to begin mass manufacturing of its humanoid robot Optimus in the near future. Tesla CEO Elon Musk announced plans for a specialized Robotaxi on April 7 during the official inauguration of the $1.1 billion Tesla facility in Texas. “It’s going to look fairly futuristic,” Musk remarked of the vehicle. This isn’t the first time the billionaire has brought up the subject of Tesla’s robotaxi.
Tesla hosted an event named “Autonomy Day” in April 2019 to demonstrate the autonomous driving technology that the business incorporates into every Tesla vehicle.
Earlier this year, the billionaire said that he was “quite confident” in projecting that Tesla will launch autonomous robotaxis in the next year, before revealing a massive plan to have 1 million such vehicles on public roads by the end of 2020.
For Musk, the term “robotaxi” referred to self-driving automobiles that were capable of functioning without a human driver present and of picking up people and transporting them to random destinations. A robotic version of Uber (UBER) – Get Uber Technologies, Inc. Report or Lyft (LYFT) – Get Lyft, Inc. Class A Report, to name a few popular ride-hailing services.
As a result, Tesla intended to use the current Model 3 as the foundation for a fleet of self-driving taxis.
According to Musk’s latest claims, the robotaxi will be a completely new vehicle that does not presently exist in Tesla’s inventory. It will be a whole new vehicle with an entirely new design.
However, no more information or specs were provided. For example, the entrepreneur did not specify the date on which the product went into production or offer a visual representation of the product.
One of the most difficult obstacles to overcome in order to make this promise a reality would be to achieve level 5 autonomous driving, which would mean that a vehicle would be able to drive itself without the assistance of a person behind the wheel. Full self-driving (FSD), the driver assistance technology presently being developed by Tesla and now available for purchase for $12,000, does not enable cars to operate autonomously. Musk, on the other hand, has vowed that FSD will be mastered and that Tesla vehicles would be self-driving by the end of the year. Notably, the millionaire has made this vow on several occasions without even recognizing that he has done so.
